Cell-Free DNA Production: Ending the Plasmid Reliance
A major technical milestone in early 2026 is the commercial scaling of Cell-Free DNA synthesis. Traditionally, "growing" DNA required bacteria (plasmids), a process that is slow and prone to "recombination-mediated variation."
New platforms, such as Elegen's ENFINIA™, produce long (up to 7kb), high-complexity linear DNA entirely outside of living cells. This cell-free approach is faster, generates less waste, and produces DNA that is "IVT-ready" (ready for in-vitro transcription into mRNA). This is particularly critical for the 2026 mRNA vaccine market, where speed and purity are the most important metrics.
